With our fully accessible foyer and auditorium and boasting a rare Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence; Hertford Theatre plays an important part in the life, health and well-being of the people who live in and around Hertford. We are often used as a centre for community consultations, play host to informal gatherings, meetings and host a broad range of social activities and classes. We are a hub for all things Hertford.
A recognised Dementia and Family Friendly Venue, we offer relaxed performances and screenings where SEN children and adults can enjoy their favourite show or film without worry. We turn the sound down a bit, leave the house lights on, avoid too many flashing lights and loud bangs, and let the audience come and go as they like. All this just makes things that bit easier for everyone!
In a similar way, we also offer special screenings of our films for all our Parents/Carers and Babies – where the noise of a crying baby is not frowned upon and parents/carers can gather to chat, watch a film and be part of an informal social network. Whilst for our deaf and hard of hearing audiences we offer subtitled screenings and for our blind audiences we offer an audio description facility.
We offer a diverse and inclusive volunteers scheme that is open to anyone over the age of 16yrs and this offers a chance for people to get involved with the day to day running of the theatre, generating a sense of ownership and pride in the theatre. Becoming a volunteer is a wonderful way to meet other people, to be in a supportive and social environment and of course, to give something back to the community and the theatre. In return for all their hard-work our volunteers get to see films and shows for free!
Hertford Theatre carries its message out into the community and beyond by distributing leaflets and posters as well as engaging with social media on Facebook and Twitter. We also get involved in many parts of rural Hertfordshire and have a presence in many village fetes and festivals across the district.
As you can see when you glance over our dedicated Community Board in the Hertford Theatre foyer; we play host to a range of local community organisations offering a range of activities including yoga classes, health and fitness classes, dance classes and immersive sensory play classes for toddlers and babies. In so doing, Hertford Theatre plays its part in supporting a large number of local businesses, charities and organisations including:
